A work party at Llanymynech were helping to rebuild the towpath wall and create a new stretch of canal to get “George Watson Buck” running in 2006.
Beyond the road bridge that is being re-constructed, work is in progress on dredging the winding point.
A new Photo-site section is on line. GUILSFIELD ARM.
Also:- Photo-site sections 10 to 15 have been updated.
9th April 2006
Work has now been completed on the Llanymynech Road Bridge and work is in progress on the stone wharf and towpath walls ready for re-watering this month.

The water level has been lowered after dams ( see photo’ below) were constructed.
Volunteers are re-building the bank walls on the towpath side before the narrow-boat “George Watson Buck”, seen here sat on the bottom, is re-floated.
Extra volunteer helpers are always welcome.

S.U.C.S. Work Party at Newhouse Lock.
A fine dry weekend came to the help the volunteers of the S.U.C.S.
The Work Party are in the process of restoring the the lock to full working order and work is proceeding at a steady pace. The workmanship is first class and will produce a restored lock designed to last.

A grant of £575,000 has been awarded from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Work will now begin in the next few months to restore the Gronwen Wharf to Redwith section.
A bid for a further £11.5 million has also been announced to pay for the complete restoration of the canal to through Montgomeryshire to Newtown.

To the south of the road bridge, dredging of the winding point has been completed and this section of canal is back in water.

At Llanymynech, although the weather was fine, it was cold and misty.
A work party of volunteers continued with the re-building of the stone walling on the towpath side of the canal opposite the old stable block.

Preparation work ready for the running of NB “George Watson Buck” at Llanymynech continued with the construction of a new winding point near to the blockage at the railway embankment.
2007-2008
Work is well under way on the restoration of the Gronwen Wharf to Crickheath section together with Crickheath Wharf. Volunteers from several groups together with BW and contractors, are all playing their part.

October 2006
A further grant of £50,000 has been awarded from HLF. This will enable the voluntary restoration of the Redwith to Crickheath section to proceed at a greater pace.
6th May 2006
“Llanymynech Launch”
Work on the A483 Road Bridge is completed. The new winding point and Llanymynech section of canal are now in water and open for navigation.
At the the Wharf, adjacent to the Visitor Centre, the narrow boat George Watson Buck is in service and ready for use on this section.
