Maesbury Canal Festival – Fishing Competition – 2 September 2012
Still time to enter
Following the success of the fishing competition at the last Maesbury Canal Festival, the competition is being repeated at this year's Festival, being held on 1st and 2nd September. The competition, with prizes donated by Weston Pools of Oswestry, is open to under 16s and bookings are now being taken. As the competition is limited to 30 pegs competitors are advised to book early.
Judith Richards, who chairs the Festival Committee, said, "We are delighted with all the entries for our event at the Maesbury Canal Festival. Over 30 boats are coming, from all over the national canal network. Visitors will find a festival with a lively collection of craft demonstrations, children's activities, live music, stalls, good food and entertainments. We hope the fishing competition will compliment the other activities and encourage youngsters to take up the sport and we are lucky that it is being organised by Weston Pools who in eight years have become established as one of the best fisheries in the area.
“Many people come to the Montgomery Canal for a variety of different activities, and angling takes its place on the towpath alongside walking, running, cycling and canoeing. Our competition is on the towpath north of Redwith Bridge, the newest section of the Montgomery Canal which was restored a few years ago and not yet used by boats.”
