Pool Quay Canal Festival.

The Festival is to be held in the grounds of Crowther Hall Welshpool SY21 9JU and

canal side around Crowther Hall Lock .

Sat. July 7th - Fun Day.

  Free Admission , from 10am - 5pm .

Children have canoeing, fishing, pond-dipping, towpath I-spy and fun creative activities to

keep them occupied.

Boat owners demonstrate their boat handling skills and do their best to win in a decorated

boat procession.

Tony Lewery, well-known waterway artist, author and historian hosts an exhibition of his art.

Canal restoration photographs by Harry Arnold MBE, the well-known waterway photographer

and author are on display in ‘Restoration Corner’.

Music throughout the day includes the 20-strong Ffonic, Newtown’s ‘amazing community band’

with folk music from ‘just about everywhere’; the Bordermen, with songs from the 60s & 70s;

and the Rob Cook Williams Band with rock, jazz, blues and Rob’s original music.

All these plus radio-controlled model boats, classic cars, veteran bicycles, craft demonstrations,

canal society and other stalls, food and beer tent add up to an unforgettable day.

Members of ceilidh band 5 Speed Box entertain at a Saturday evening barbecue which starts at 7.30pm.

Sunday 8th July - Exhibitions and Open Day.

Free Admission, from 10am - 4pm .

The vicar of St. John's leads a canalside service at 10.30am followed by a boat blessing.

The Tony Lewery art exhibition and Harry Arnold MBE restoration photographic exhibition are open. Crowther Hall Lock Cottage has its 'open day' from 12noon - 4pm.

Like the 2008 and 2009 canal rallies in Welshpool, most of the boats at the Festival will be trailable –

visiting to join the small number of local boats which stay on this land-locked section of canal.
