Friends of the Montgomery Canal

( The Montgomery Canal 2013 Triathlon was held on Saturday the 11th May.

    1st March  Saturday.

St. Davids Day Walk.

Meet 10.30am. Wagon & Horses pub. Lower Canal Road, Newtown.

A group upward of thirty “friends” guided by local historian David Pugh, enjoyed a

walk along the remains of the canal towpath as far as Penarth Weir where a feeder

enters the canal and then back to the “Wagon and Horses”, Newtown, for lunch.

The walk of approx. 4 miles was enjoyed by all.


 7th March Friday.

Maesbury ‘14 Fundraising Concert.

“Songs and Pancakes with the Orthopaedic Hospital Choir”.

7.30 pm. Llandrinio Village Hall.

£6 entry includes pancakes, tea and coffee served after the performance.

   12th April Saturday.       Welshpool Towpath Litter Pick.

Llandrinio Village Hall from 7pm - 9pm

The Friends have arranged a special consultation meeting with Sylvia EdwardsCRT's Montgomery Canal Community Development Officer,

There will be a special screening of "Water Adds Value", the film shown at the major CRT/IWA Conference in Birmingham in May - which gives an idea of the benefits restored canals can offer communities. There will also be mince pies, mulled wine (and non-alcoholic seasonal drinks for drivers!)

So, come to Llandrinio Village Hall for a special evening of fun, food and interest -

and add your ides for activities you would like to see on the Monty.

Directions to Llandrinio: The Village Hall is on the B4393 Four Crosses-Ford road, almost opposite Llandrinio service station. Travelling from the Oswestry direction on the A483, turn left at the 'new' Llandysilio roundabout onto the B4393; from the Welshpool direction on the A483, turn right into the B4393 at 'Maerdy Bridge'. The hall fronts onto the road and the car park is behind the building. Entrances to the car park are to the east and west of the Hall.
