Montgomery Canal

Dinghy Dawdle 7th June 2009

The 2009 Dinghy Dawdle started at the picturesque Penllwyn Lodges complex near to Garthmyl.

In spite of the weather , driving heavy rain , a total of around forty craft of all shapes and sizes together with crew members and accompanying walkers gathered for the start of this annual event.
The course of the “dawdle” involved two crossings of the busy A483 trunk road and passing through three locks and a road tunnel before assembling for lunch and presentation of commemorative plaques at Newhouse Lock which is the latest lock to be restored on this section of the canal.
Formalities over, the boaters were then able to proceed in their own time to the limit of navigation at Freestone Lock before returning to Aberbechan where their vehicles had been left at the start of the day.

In spite of the terrible weather conditions, the Dawdle has been well supported by both boaters and walkers, some of which had travelled
great distances to participate in this annual event and, as always, the
event was enjoyed by both young and old alike.

SEE YOU NEXT YEAR AND DON’T FORGET TO TELL YOUR FRIENDS TO COME ALONG AS WELL .

With thanks to all involved in the running and organising of this
annual event who have made it all possible.
SUCS, Friends of the Montgomery Canal, BW, etc., and  last but
definitely not least, the main organiser Terry Wain.
