Queens Head Sand Loading Warf .

The historic picture was provided courtesy of Shropshire Paddlesport and the Queens Head Hotel .

The photos below are of course more recent ones of my own showing :-

The scene in 1996 after the canal had been re-opened as far as Queens Head.

This photo was taken from the winding point looking towards the wharf and the new road bridge.   

The old wharf  buildings seen to the left of the canal are now the headquarters of Shropshire Paddlesport.

(A community-based canoeing and kayaking club).

The entrance to the old sand tunnel is situated below the building.

The scene below in 2006 is that of  the narrow boat “JUBILEE”  (obtained by

the IWA as part of its Golden Jubilee celebrations), moored by the old wharf .
